31 Days of Renfield: Day 20

“Jimmy (Dracula) and I made an appearance on WHAS 11 news at noon. Check it out: http://www.whas11.com/video?id=105272378&sec=553687. I’m fascinated by the news. We were able to watch the broadcast for a bit while we were waiting to be interviewed. I was giggling in the corner the whole time because of the “newscaster speak” with their misplaced emphasis on certain words and syllables and all the mannerisms of dealing with papers that they never look at and pens that they don’t use.  It is alarmingly low key in that studio and the anchor and weatherman are so at ease you forget that it is being broadcast on television. I’m also intrigued by how much they trust us to be calm and composed on television. There’s no briefing before hand. We just arrived escorted by staff from Actors’ PR department and before you know it they were hooking on a mic and sitting us down for an interview. If you watch the clip you can see me mess up and touch my mic which makes a loud noise. Such a bizarre and wonderful experience. On another related note, I met the staff of WAVE3’s good morning show at opening night of Dracula. We had a great time chatting and I proposed to them that Renfield should make an appearance on the morning show as the weatherman. They were really excited about that idea. If you should feel inclined I think you should go ahead and email WAVE3 and tell them you want to see me do the weather. It would be a dream come true.”

  1. My school, Silver Creek High, went and saw Dracula at a student matinee in September. It was fantastic! I’d love to see it again sometime! All of the performances were great. Mark Bovino, you were spectacular. Totally hilarious. We quote your character all time!

Thanks for producing a great show.

  2. I saw Dracula for the first time (and my second time!) this month. I absolutely adored the play and all of the actors, especially James Whalen as Dracula and you, Marc Bovino as Renfield.

When I saw that interview, I thought, “Whoa, I would sure love to see one of you two walking down the street.” 🙂 Can’t wait for next year’s performances! I’m definitely going again. I’m hoping that Mr. Whalen will play Dracula again.

Thank you for all your hard work!!
